Synopsis
Elliot, 10, spends his summer at his Grandparents’ in the Basque Country in France. As a Norwegian, he struggles to adapt, unlike his sharp-witted French cousins. Observing the brutal landscape and the mystical village, his anxiety grows. And who is Brouillarta?
Statement from Filmmaker
Brouillarta is a short film for children investigating anxiety, beauty, family and death. Elliot spends his summer at his Grandparents’ in the Basque Country in France. As a Norwegian he struggles to adapt, unlike his sharp-witted French cousins. Observing the beautiful, but brutal landscape and the mystical village, his anxiety grows. The film is a poetic hybrid between fiction and documentary, playing with the horror genre. The film is shot in a small village in the Basque Country in France. It is the village of the producer's parents. The producer and the director's common children and nieces are acting in the film. The film was also made with the support of all the inhabitants of the village.
