Thanks for Joining us! Please donate today!!

ACT is pleased to announce that the Board of Directors has secured matching funds – up to $100,000 – on all contributions made before the end of 2020 – literally doubling your contribution.  So, it has never been more important to support ACT right now. This matching fund will help raise the $243,000 required to provide programming and operate the historic Capitol Theatre in 2021.

As the holidays are the season for giving, we hope you will help. Happy Holidays!

FROM THE ARTISTIC/MANAGING DIRECTOR

Welcome to our very merry, if somewhat isolated and strange, holiday season celebration. It seems like it has been forever since our last ACT production in March. We miss you and are pleased to make at least some connection with you - if not in person, then online.

Thanks so much for your support! We appreciate every 2020 season subscription which you converted to a 2020 season contribution. We wouldn’t be here without your generous help. Seventy percent of our subscribers converted to a contribution. You got us through our 2020 season, which ended November 30th. Our new fiscal year began a few days ago, on December 1st. Unfortunately, this pandemic is still raising its ugly head and we’ll need your continued support as we move into 2021.
Normally, we’d now be selling subscriptions, which would be our seed money for beginning our next season. This year, since Covid-19 won’t let us plan too far down the road, we will not be selling subscriptions and that will leave us $80,000 short as we begin 2021. We hope you will help by making a contribution in at least the amount of your normal season subscription before the end of December (if possible), or as soon as possible in 2021. You will be receiving information on how to help by mail or email soon. You can always go to AberdeenCommunityTheatre.com to help at any time with our 2021 season efforts.

Although we have furloughed some staff and the rest are only working between 50% - 75% of normal, we have been accomplishing a lot in the Capitol Theatre facility, even as we have been forced to curtail our theater productions.  I’d like to thank Brian Schultz and all the ACT staff for all their efforts on this hybrid radio adaptation of “A Christmas Carol.” And to all our wonderful ACT volunteers: thank you! Thank you for mounting this show during this pandemic. And of course, to you, our audience, thank you and have the merriest of holidays possible, and we hope this production will start it off.
We look forward to a more normal 2021, but count our blessing now in 2020.
   Take care.

FROM THE DIRECTOR

Merry Christmas!  Whether you’re here at the theater live and in person or watching online from the comfort of your computer screen, thank you for joining us for this enhanced radio adaptation of the holiday classic, “A Christmas Carol.”  It’s our sincere wish that this moment in time finds you happy, healthy and safe.
I’ve been asked over and over again what an ‘enhanced radio adaptation’ means.  Simply, I found Mr. Palermo’s radio script, meant to be done in a radio style:  actors holding scripts, standing in front of microphones; sound effects artists off to the sides rattling chains and clomping shoes; pre-recorded music playing in the background – while your ears and imaginations fill in the rest.  The enhancement comes from all the video elements we’re adding.  There are myriad reasons for adding video to this show.
For the live show, everyone that Scrooge interacts with in real life will appear onstage.  Everyone else – who appears in visions or memories – will appear onscreen.
For the online version, everyone appears onscreen – and it gives you something to look at while you’re listening to the show.
When we started this process back in September, we had no idea what the state of our community would be once December rolled around.  This process has not only allowed us to work together in very small groups, but should someone need to quarantine, the production could still move forward.
Speaking on behalf of ACT’s board of directors, staff and volunteers, we find ourselves at this moment full of gratitude.
We’re grateful to have the opportunity to offer you “A Christmas Carol” to help kick off this holiday season.  It’s been a long road since shutting down in March, and it’s a blessing to be able to come together – as a community – and create something the whole community can enjoy.  This truly has been a community effort, from the actors and crew to the visual artists whose original work you’re about to see (also hanging in the Jane West Gallery).
We’re also grateful to have been able to offer some programming over the course of the year – from our popcorn events, to our Rock the Marquee production; Storybook Land Theatre and Improv show.  You can still find all of those online.
And, of course, we are endlessly grateful for the financial support you have given your community theater.  Whether you converted your season subscription into a contribution, made other donations throughout the year, or some combination of both, we wouldn’t still be here without you.
    Thank you.

We’re not out of the woods yet, though.  Until we’re able to get back to offering a full season of productions again, your continued financial support will be critical.  In the meantime, we will continue to try to find ways to offer high quality productions you’ve come to expect from ACT.  Whether it be live, online, or some combination, we’re committed to bringing you our very best.  Thank you, in advance, for your continued support.
And so for now, let us all count our blessings and please let us know what you think of this most unique, socially-distant, enhanced radio version of “A Christmas Carol.”  Thank you again for joining us.

JANE WEST (REDMOND) was a lover of all visual and performing arts. Her involvement in the nurture of these was evident in the early efforts to procure the Capitol Theatre building for the Aberdeen Community Theatre. The Jane West Gallery is dedicated to her memory.
